Understanding Golf Slice
A sliced shot is basically a shot which causes the ball to curve either to the right or to the left quite severely whilst it is in mid air. This can be really damaging to your shot and many golfers think that it cannot be fixed and it is just the luck of the shot. However it can be fixed, you just have to take the time to understand why it occurs.
Firstly you need to understand your stance. Many golfers stand facing the left. That is incorrect and it will more than likely cause the ball to go in the opposite direction to what you want it to. The correct stance includes standing with your hips, shoulders and feet square in line with the ball.
Another problem comes when you actually hit the ball. It is common to hit the ball and then swing the club to the left. However what you really need to do is imagine that there is another ball a few inches away from the actual ball that you will be hitting. As you hit the actual ball, carry on your swing as though you were going to hit the second ball too. That way the club stays straight and you will avoid going outside of the target line.
Finally you need to have a good grip on the club. The way that you hold the club will make a big difference to how you hit the ball. Many professionals use the triangular stance where their arms are long and creating a triangular shape as they grip the club. By focusing on this posture it will help you to put your all into actually hitting the ball. You should also ensure that you grip the club correctly. Try not to grip it too tight but also not too loose. Think of it as a baby animal. You wouldn’t hold it too tight, you would apply just enough pressure to secure it, but not so much that you suffocate it. By following this rule it will help you to apply the correct grip.
